"I became involved in doing
all the music for the upcoming film The Hottest State, written and
directed by Ethan Hawke. This has been an exciting project. The soundtrack
features different artists singing new versions of songs of mine,
including Willie Nelson, Norah Jones, Emmylou Harris, Bright Eyes, M. Ward,
The Black Keys, Cat Power, Feist, Brad Mehldau, and others, several of which I had the great opportunity to produce. There are also many of
my songs performed in the movie, by myself and the female lead Catalina Sandina Moreno. With the help of some friends, including Kenny
Wollesen, Tony Scherr and Jon Dryden, I recorded the instrumental score for the
film. And, last but not least, I made my acting debut, which was
actually just a few incidental lines (though I'm certain the plot hinged
upon them). The movie is about a young actor in NYC who falls in love with
a singer/songwriter who breaks his heart, forcing him to explor
e himself and his difficult relationship with his parents. It stars
Mark Webber, and the cast includes Sandina Moreno, Ethan Hawke, Laura
Linney, Michelle Williams, and Sonia Braga. It will premiere at the
prestigious Venice Flim Festival in September and be released sometime next
year. The soundtrack album will come out with the release of the film."

Ethan Hawke's The Hottest State is a drama based on Hawke's debut novel, set in Manhatttan, about a frustrating relationship between a Texas actor named William (Mark Webber) and a singer/songwriter named Sarah (Catalina Sandino Moreno), with a previous romantic interest named Samantha (Michelle Williams) flitting in and out of his life. And now Hawke's 117-minute film will play as an out-of-competition selection at the upcoming Venice Film Festival. Which means, presumably, it'll show at the Toronto Film Festival also. State also stars Laura Linney, Sonia Braga and Hawke.

donc voila en gros c'est un drame baser sur le best seller d'ethan hawke, ca parle d'une relation compliquer entre deux personnages, William et Sarah. Michelle y interprete Samantha l'ex petit amie de William, a ce que j'ai il y aura des flash back de leur relation et les deux persos se remettrais ensemble. Le film est en compétition au prochain festival de venise et sera également présenter au festival de toronto ( comme ca avait était le cas pour brokeback mountain, esperons que le film ait le meme succés ). Les autres stars du film sont Laura Linney,Sofia Braga et Ethan Hawke.

Ce fort contingent américain est complété par Le Diable s'habille en Prada avec Meryl Streep en impitoyable rédac'chef d'un magazine de mode (hors compétition), et, dans les sections parallèles, la deuxième réalisation de l'acteur Ethan Hawke, The Hottest State et le documentaire de Spike Lee sur les ravages de l'ouragan Katrina, tout juste un an après la tragédie.
